Juniors:

Junior club is GO!

Wisbech Badminton Club's Junior coaching sessions closed at the end of April with 9 players gaining certificates in the Badminton Into Schools Initiative (BISI) Awards.  Seven of those juniors completed two levels whilst two other members gained their level 2's after gaining level one certificates last year.  All the juniors have worked hard in the final few weeks to achieve their goals and the club congratulates them on their efforts.  Many of them already have their sights set on returning in September to progress further in badminton.

Those pictured are Tommy Williams, Abigail Reeve, Anna Reeder, Anthony Reeve, Emilie Yerrell, Danielle Crofts and Jason Esser.  Not pictured but who also passed, were Ryan and Carl Purvey.

Also displaying his certificate is Stuart Crofts who in October of last year gained his level one qualification in badminton coaching from Badminton England after a 3 day course at Witchford college.  This now means the club has two qualified coaches, Stewart Yeagers also in picture has coached badminton for some time and with the help of Sheila Hennessey and Dominic Stannard the juniors are in good hands.

Since the very early years it has been recognised that to keep any sport or interest going you need young fresh talent to fill the boots of those moving out of the game.

At Wisbech Badminton Club we are more than keen to keep interest alive by holding a badminton club for juniors every Wednesday night at 7pm till 8pm.  We currently have 2 qualified coaches teaching children from as young as 8 up to 15 years old.  We also have 2 other adults at least to help out on these evenings to provide encouragement and improve skills. All of our adult helpers are CRB registered for the purpose of Badminton coaching.

We work with the BISI (Badminton in Schools Iniative) aimed at children aged 6 to 16 years old which provides certificates and education about the game. Below you can see some of the youngsters that benefited last year from this short course.

Coaching will resume in September but with some significant changes.  Coaching will begin on Wednesday 10th September and will be open to all juniors from 8 years old for 2 weeks only at the cost of £2 per evening. However due to the earlier price rise subject upon the club by the school, which increased costs and court availability, we feel the coaching club requires a level of stability to continue running satisfactorily.  Therefore starting on the 25th September coaching will be limited to just 16 places and fees will be charged termly in advance still equivalent to £1.50 per week.  This will be 8 weekly and so the total for each term (of which there would be 3) would be £12, which we hope you would believe to be of good value.

If your child is very interested in playing please see a coach or helper who will be able to put your childs name down for a termly place.  Even if they do not gain a place in the first term there may arise an opportunity to be coached later in the year.

Entrance to the junior club is priced as above and starts in September 2008 until April 2009,  we have 3 courts at our disposal at theThomas Clarkson Community College, Weasenham Lane.

If you or your child is interested in securing a place please either contact us on 07780977032 or email enquiries@wisbechbadminton.co.uk
