The ladies team in the Ouse Valley yet again showed their expertise despite not been on top form the ladies secured another win while away. S. Hennessy & M. Ouse Valley Mens

    08/02/09

The mens Ouse Valley team suffered a 6-0 defeat at the hands of last year’s winners Holbeach. As usual though there were some really close games. Tom Davies / Paul Allen went to 3 ends on the first game and lost by 21 - 19. Terry Roughton / Michael Hanson lost by a point in their first match also. The whole team put up a good fight even though the score does not suggest it. When Newlynn visited a home match it ended all fair and square with a 3- 3 draw. M. Hanson / T. Roughton won their first game as did M.Bouri / P.Allen both in 3 ends with the pairing of Hanson / Allen winning their final game. It was a very good even match and could have gone either way.

    Hunts & Peterborough Mens A

    08/02/09

The mens A team in the Hunts and Peterborough league saw good fortune before Christmas and then a sharp slump!  Playing against Peterborough central produced another excellent win, their 3rd of 4 games.  Playing on an extroadinarily slippery floor, each pair managed to win 2 games each, all only losing to Peterboroughs no.1 pair.  Stuart Crofts/Paul Leet, Paul Allen/Mukesh Bouri and Mark Wisbey/Tom Davies made up the winning team.  This placed the team 2nd in the division. The next match played at home against Jack Hunt 2 resulted in a 7-2 loss. Shane Loates stood in as a number 1 pairing with Michael Hanson playing very well at a high standard.  Playing away at border proved a disaster for the team, losing 8 – 1 to a very good team, Captain Stuart Crofts and Paul Leet were the only pair to win a game but even that went 3 ends.  Their last game was the away leg against Jack Hunt 2 which saw marginal improvements and controversy. The match eventually ended with the Wisbech team losing 5-4, all 3 pairs won against their 3rd pair with P. Leet and S. Crofts claiming the 4th game after a late show from one of Jack Hunt’s team members appearing very late and after the deadline time.

    Hunts & Peterborough Mens B

    08/02/09

A hard fought and long match with an unusually high total of 24 games played greeted the mens Hunts and Peterbough B team when playing Parkgate at home. All pairs played well and the match could easily have gone either way with only 2 or 3 points separating the teams in many games. Wisbech despite enjoying the competition eventually lost the match 6 - 3.  The number 1 pairing of Dom Stannard/Tom Davies playing in a match together for the first time did exceptionally well to win 2 rubbers. Shane Loates/Darren Harvey were disappointed to take all 3 rubbers to 3 games but end up on the losing end of each after some hard fought competition. Richard Walpole/Jeff Townsend managed to defeat the Parkgate no. 1 pairing but failed to win against the 2nd & 3rd pairs although again all rubbers were close scoring. The team will look forward to the return match and hope to reverse the result.

Finally many thanks to the school caretaker who closed up at 10.20 p.m.

    • Paul Allen (captain)

    • Mick Hanson

    • Terry Roughton

    • Subsititued

    Ouse Valley Ladies

    07/12/08

The ladies Ouse Valley team has put in yet another incredible and it would seem unstoppable win.  Playing against Kings Lynn away they recorded their 4th victory out of 4 with a 4-2 win, despite not being on top form.  Sheila Hennesey and Melissa Holden secured the victory by winning the final rubber.  The team, also consisting of Ruth Wisbey and Elaine Aldrich showed grit and determination throughout the match, and now has the chance to rest with the next game not scheduled till February.

    13/11

The Ouse Valley team comprising of Sheila Hennessey (capt), Ruth Wisbey, Elaine Aldrich and Melissa Holden played at home against Kings Lynn and recorded a 6-0 easy victory.  All ladies put in very strong performances with only one game having to stretch to a 3 end game.  Ruth and Sheila filed an astounding 21-6 win in one particular game.

    28/10

The ladies started their season away with a fixture at Heacham.  Ruth Wisbey was in convincing form to win all her 3 matches and Melissa Holden playing in her first ever match hit the winning shot as Wisbech won 4-2.

In the next match Wisbech hosted Kings Lynn at the Thomas Clarkson Community College and with Kings Lynn arriving a player short they recorded a resounding 5-1 win, the team on both occasions was Ruth Wisbey, Sheila Hennessy, Elaine Aldrich and Melissa Holden.

    Ouse Valley Mixed

    07/12/08

The first matches from the Ouse Valley mixed team have had some mixed but encouragable results.  Their first match was against March A.  The team struggled to find its form from the previous season, they managed to take one match but the score of 8-1 reflected March being the stronger team.  The team was in much better match form when they played away against Heacham.  They had some very close matches and victory was held to the last game when Wisbech won with a 5-4 score.  On the return leg with Heacham playing Wisbech at home the team recorded a more confident 7-2 win. They played well again when they took on March B, giving a strong performance, this was reflected in their 7-2 victory.  The team on all occasions consisted of Elaine Aldrich (captain) partnered by Mukesh Bouri, Ruth Wisbey partnered by Michael Hanson and Sheila Hennessey partnered by Paul Leet, with exception in the March A game where Melissa Holden substituted.

    17/02

The Ouse Valley mixed team won their first match of the season away playing against ‘March A’.  Number 1 pairing of Michael Hanson/Ruth Woods won all three games greatly contributing to the win with Mukesh Bouri/Elaine Aldrich and Paul Leet/Sheila Hennessy winning one game each, there next game was scheduled for this week.

    Ouse Valley mens

    07/12/08

The Men’s Ouse valley team have experienced a busy period, playing an exhausting 3 games within 8 days!  Their first game against reigning league champions Holbeach resulted in a 6-0 defeat.  Played away the team had some very close games, with Paul Allen/Tom Davies playing 3 ends in first game and only losing by two points, Michael Hanson/Terry Roughton suffered similar misfortune losing their first match by a single point.  The next game against Kings Lynn B, also away, produced a near identical score, with a 5-1 result in the favour of the Lynn side.  P Allen/M Hanson being the only pair to grab a win, most games went 3 ends with P Allen/T Roughton losing a rubber 21-19 / 19-21 / 27-26.  The team fully expect to reverse the score at home.  Their final game of this year was again played away, against Newlyn at Gaywood Park.  The team pulled together to win 4-2, the team consisted of Paul Allen, Stuart Crofts, Terry Roughton and Michael Hanson.

    13/11

The Men’s Ouse Valley team experienced mixed fortunes to the start off their season with a loss and a win to equal things out. Their first game was played at home against King’s Lynn ‘A’, who it would appear pulled out all the stops to produce a very strong team.  Despite some very good and enjoyable games Wisbech lost 6 games to 0.  The team consisted of Paul Allen (capt), Michael Hanson, Mukesh Bouri and Paul Leet.  Inversely only 2 weeks later their fortunes had changed, along with some of the team.  With P.Allen and M.Hanson remaining Terry Roughton and Mark Wisbey rounded out the four players.  This time against Kings Lynn ‘C’, it was the turn of Wisbech to win 6-0, the captain described the game as ‘a demolish job’ with only one game going 3 ends it was a comfortable and very good win.

    28/10

The Ouse valley men’s  team lost their first game against Kings lynn 6-0. The team comprised of Paul Allen, Paul Leet, Terry Roughton and Michael Hanson

    17/02

Meanwhile in the Ouse valley men’s things have gradually begun to improve after a 6-0 defeat to Holbeach, who were in excellent form.  A win followed at an away game with Newlyn and a draw last week against the positively high class Lynn ‘A’ gave the team a boost. The team consists of Paul Allen, Terry Roughton, Michael Hanson and Paul Leet/Mark Wisbey.  There next game is scheduled for 6 days before Christmas dinner, something to look forward too!

    Hunts and Peterborough mens A

    07/12/08

The men’s Hunts and Peterborough A team secured a narrow but relevant win over Sawtry away.  The team of Stuart Crofts/Paul Leet, Mark Wisbey/Michael Hanson, Paul Allen/Mukesh Bouri got back to winning ways and all played well, despite some harsh line and racket decisions by the opposition.

    13/11

On the back of a solid win, the Men’s ‘A’ team in the Hunts and Peterborough league suffered an uncomfortable defeat against a good Border team.  Only team captain Stuart Crofts and his partner Paul Leet managed to win 2 games with the remaining 7 all lost.  Tom Davies deputising for M.Hanson, partnered Mark Wisbey and in spite of some very close games they failed to secure a game.  Paul Allen/Mukesh Bouri lost all their games, however they did manage to win one end (rubber) which at the end of season could give a points advantage.

    28/10

In the Hunts and Peterborough league the mens A team put in a impressive performance. After promotion last season to division 3, this season they expected a close first game, winning 7 -2 put a smile on their faces.  Pair 3, Paul Allen and Mukesh Bouri played excellently to win all their 3 games. Michael Hanson and Mark Wisbey also played well to win 2 of their games and despite Michael diving across the court on numerous occasions they failed to clinch their last game.  Pair 2, Paul Leet and Stuart Crofts continued last years great form to win 2 games, losing the third only after playing 3 very close ends.

    17/02

The men’s Hunts and Peterborough League are going from strength to strength with a further 2 wins pegged up.  In an away game to Peterborough City 2, number 1 pairing Paul Leet/Stuart Crofts stormed through their games winning all 3.  Paul Allen/Mukesh Bouri claimed 2 games and was disappointed not to get a third, whilst Mark Wisbey/Richard Walpole failed to win a game.  In last months home match against Sawtry the team decided to promote an up and coming junior player, 16 year old Tom Davies who replaced Stuart Crofts, he played very well with Paul Leet to win one of their 3 games.  It was Tom’s first venture into match play and the team feel he did an excellent job, Tom was also happy with the result.  With the rest of the team unchanged Allen/Bouri won 2 and Wisbey/Walpole was back on form to win 2 leading to an overall 5-4 win.

    24/10

Ouse Valley mixed - Captain Mukesh Bouri was happy with this years performance in the second division.  The team played excellently to secure promotion to the first division and received a shield for their trouble.  Division 1 beckons in September.

The men’s Ouse Valley Team in Division 1 played King’s Lynn ‘B’ The team consisted of Paul Allen (Capt.), Mukesh Bouri, Michael Hanson and Terry Roughton.  In this league the rules require each player from the same team to partner each other, this way all players play together.  The final score was 4 – 2 to King’s Lynn.  The partnerships of Terry and Michael and Paul and Michael being the 2 pairings to win their games.  The matches were all very close and competitive and a draw would have been a fairer result.

The men’s Hunts and Peterborough team in Division 4 only just lost out to ‘new to the division’ St Ivo.  Last years successful team were reunited to play the game but were left disappointed with a defeat after feeling they should have done more.  The team of  Paul Allen/Mukesh Bouri, Paul Leet/Stuart Crofts and Mark Wisbey/Richard Walpole only just lost out with a  5 – 4 loss, three of the games were decided by a three ender match. Paul and Mukesh won two, Paul and Stuart won one but promise better for the next game and Richard and Mark one won.

    Hunts and Peterborough mens B

    13/11

Playing their first game of the season after a couple of forced rearrangements the newly formed Men’s ‘B’ team in the Hunts and Peterborough league came away from playing Stanground with a satisfying win.  The new team consisted of seasoned players Jeff Townsend (capt) partnered by Richard Walpole winning 2 games, while experienced Terry Roughton paired up with newcomer Tom Davies to impressively win all 3 of their games.  Also new to the club and match play for Wisbech were pair 3 Shane Loates and Darren Harvey equally impressive playing their first competitive league game together to gain 2 victorious games.  All 3 newcomers showed great promise in their first league game.
