Want to keep fit?......
Did you know that badminton is great for conditioning the body! Step out on
to the badminton court and you can expect to burn from 600 to 1000 calories
per hour as well as testing your stamina, flexibility and coordination.
The reality is that badminton is officially the fastest of all racket
sports. Players can rocket the shuttlecock at speeds of up to 180 mph toward
their opponent, (not sure many of us do that)! But, it is not just all
about speed; a player can expect to run up to four miles around the court
during a match whilst having the agility to maintain energy-busting rallies.
What a great way to keep fit.
Whats the cost?
£4 a week for new members for the first 3 weeks and then £60 (or remainder
of season fee) if you decide
to become a member for the complete remainder of the season which runs
September till April this equates to approximately only £2.20 per night.
If you want to play in a team and take part in league games we
charge a further £3.50 per game both home and away.
How it all began
A history of our club can be found
HERE.
Welcome to the home of Wisbech Badminton Club
Wisbech badminton club is a very long established club that has enjoyed
lots of success in many past years.
In more recent years the club has seen a steady decline in numbers,
unfortunately we are not alone, many other clubs locally and nationally
are suffering from the same problems and that is why we need you!
We only play doubles at all sessions and will never offer singles play,
our doubles games consist of Ladies, Mens and Mixed, this ensures
everyone gets a good game throughout the night.
We are looking to welcome new members to the club at the season start in
September for the 2008/2009 season. Ideally we are looking for players
that know the game its rules and how to score, we play at a 'club' level
and have members of varying skill aged 16 to 65. At this time we do not operate
a beginners or coaching club for adults, (for juniors, see above or
is not however to put people off coming but to maintain a level of
quality play on a club night, however, you don't need to be the next
Gail Emms or Nathan Robertson to join!
Season structure
When the first club night starts in the first week of September we are
always rearing to go! We offer two ways to pay and play....... for the
regular player we offer a full seasons membership for just £72 which
equates to around £2.20 a night for 8 months. We offer potential
players to come and try the club for up to 3 weeks at only £4 for 2
hours worth of badminton a night, this lets you evaluate the club to see
if it is for you. If after your 3 week induction you would like to stay the club would
deduct your £12 already paid to take the cost of a complete season to
just £60, old members already pay the full £72 before the end of
September, full seaon payments after that time will be £75. If you are in full time education the subscription is
cut to just £42 if payment is made before the end of September and £45
if this date has passed.
At no time will anyone be pressured into playing league matches, but if
you wish to play in these please let us know, we still like to play
stiff competition.
We work a 'peg board' system where each member is allocated a peg with
their name, when their peg gets to the front of the board, they get to
choose 3 other members to play, you could pick many games in a night or
none at all, but be picked to play many times instead.
